Precision Environmental was engaged to carry out asbestos sampling at a residential property in Altona, Melbourne, as part of pre renovation planning works. The dwelling is representative of many homes in the area, with original building materials that commonly contain asbestos.
Scope of Works
Our scope involved a detailed onsite inspection and safe collection of suspect materials from both internal and external areas of the property. Sampling locations included:
- External eaves
- Kitchen floor
- Kitchen splashback
- Bathroom wall linings
- Toilet floor
- Toilet splashback
All sampling was completed using controlled methods to prevent fibre release and cross contamination.
Methodology and Compliance
All works were undertaken in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 Part 4.4 Asbestos and WorkSafe Victoria requirements. Samples were carefully sealed, labelled, and transported under chain of custody procedures.
Testing and Reporting
Collected samples were submitted to a NATA accredited laboratory for asbestos analysis. A formal laboratory report was issued to the client, clearly identifying asbestos presence or absence and supporting informed decision making prior to any renovation or demolition works.
Outcome
The client received clear, documented results allowing them to proceed safely and compliantly with future works at the property. Early asbestos testing helped eliminate uncertainty and reduced the risk of unplanned exposure for occupants and trades.
