The project involved controlled removal of non friable asbestos flooring within an active university environment, requiring strict safety management, exclusion controls, and regulatory compliance.
All works were completed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 Part 4.4 Asbestos, WorkSafe Victoria requirements, and EPA Victoria waste transport and disposal regulations.
Scope of Works
- Establishment of a compliant asbestos removal exclusion zone with signage and barricading
- Pre start safety briefing and review of the asbestos register
- Installation of floor protection and isolation measures
- Controlled manual removal of asbestos vinyl floor tiles
- No mechanical grinding or sanding undertaken
- Dampening techniques used where required to minimise potential fibre release
- Progressive H Class HEPA vacuuming and wet wipe decontamination
- Double bagging of asbestos waste in 200 micron bags
- EPA compliant transport and disposal at a licensed asbestos facility
- Provision of waste transport certificates and disposal documentation
All materials were removed using controlled manual methods to prevent unnecessary breakage and reduce airborne fibre risk. Works were programmed to ensure minimal disruption to surrounding areas.
