If you’re planning a renovation, demolition, or even just pulling down an old shed, one of the first things you need to ask is, do I need a licensed asbestos contractor?
In Victoria, the answer is usually yes.
According to WorkSafe Victoria, anyone removing more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos must be licensed. If it’s friable asbestos (the soft, crumbly kind), it must be done by a Class A licensed contractor, no exceptions.
We see a lot of confusion around this, especially with small residential jobs where the asbestos might not look dangerous. But the law doesn’t care how risky it looks, it’s about what the material is and how much of it you’re disturbing.
At Precision Environmental, we’re licensed for both Class A and Class B asbestos removal. That means we can legally handle both friable and non-friable asbestos across residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
We follow strict controls including:
- Negative pressure units
- HEPA vacuums
- Air monitoring (independent hygienists)
- EPA-registered waste transport and disposal
So, if you’re unsure whether your job requires a licensed contractor, don’t guess, call us. It’s not just about doing the right thing. If you break the rules, you could be hit with big fines, stop-work orders, or worse, you could put people at serious risk.
