This is one of the most common questions we get – Do I need a hygienist for this job.
The short answer is sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on the type of work the material and who’s requesting the clearance.
Here’s when you usually need one.
For friable asbestos
If it’s Class A asbestos, friable crumbly or high risk you’ll need a hygienist to conduct air monitoring during removal and clearance testing after the job.
Commercial or government jobs
Most builders and government departments will require a third-party hygienist to verify the work and issue a clearance certificate after removal is done.
Independent documentation
If the site owner wants an independent confirmation that the job has been done correctly a hygienist will take air samples and surface swabs before allowing reoccupation.
For mould
In serious mould jobs involving hospitals, offices or childcare centres a hygienist is often brought in to assess air quality before and after remediation.
When you may not need one
For small non friable asbestos jobs like removing under 10 square metres of eave lining or a bathroom wall you may not need a hygienist unless your builder or insurer requests it.
At Precision Environmental we work closely with licensed hygienists all over Victoria. We can either work with your preferred provider or recommend someone we trust.
