Lead paint was used in thousands of homes across Victoria, especially those built before 1970. We still come across it all the time especially during renovations.
Here’s how to tell if your property might have led based paint
Your home was built before 1970
If your house was built before the early 80s there’s a strong chance it has lead paint somewhere. Before 1965 paints could contain up to 50 percent lead.
Old flaking paint
Peeling cracking or chalky paint on weatherboards window frames or architraves is often lead based. Once it starts breaking down it becomes dangerous especially if dust or chips are inhaled or ingested.
Children or pets in the home
Lead dust is a serious risk for young kids. It can cause developmental and behavioural issues even in small amounts.
DIY sanding or paint stripping
If you’re planning to sand old paint or use a heat gun and you’re not sure what it contains stop and get it tested. You could be releasing fine lead dust into the air without even realising.
At Precision Environmental we safely remove lead-based paint using proper containment PPE and EPA approved disposal. Whether it’s internal or external we follow all compliance rules so you don’t have to worry.
