What’s Involved in Safe Lead Paint Removal?

If you’re dealing with lead-based paint especially during a renovation the last thing you want is dust spreading through your home or worksite. Done wrong it becomes a serious health risk.

At Precision Environmental we follow a strict process for safe lead paint removal.

Initial inspection
We inspect the paint condition surface type and surrounding areas. If testing hasn’t been done we can organise it before starting work.

Containment
We set up poly containment sheeting if the risk is high or the area is indoors. For external jobs we use drop sheeting taped to the base of walls to catch paint flakes and dust

Controlled removal
We never dry sand lead paint. Instead, we use chemical stripping, wet sanding, or manual scraping depending on the surface and condition of the coating. All waste is bagged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of as hazardous material.

In some cases, we use a grinder fitted with a HEPA-filtered vacuum unit to remove lead-based paint from flat surfaces like concrete, steel, or render. This is not the same as dry sanding, the dust is immediately captured at the source through a Class H HEPA extraction system, preventing airborne contamination and keeping the method fully compliant with WorkSafe Victoria guidelines.

Surface clean and clearance
Once the paint is removed we HEPA vacuum and wipe all surfaces. Waste is disposed of using EPA approved methods.

Whether it’s a front fence weatherboards or internal trims we make sure it’s done right with no shortcuts.
